Radiator fans 444-544

I installed two Perma-cool 8" radiator fans p/n 19128 on the 444 radiator yesterday, here is the result:

Perma-cools fans installed

I still need to take a trip to PepBoys to get a thermostat kit (Hayden p/n 3647), so the fans turn on automatically at temperature.

I've been tentatively looking into options for my 444, since the other day I let it sit at idle for a good 15 minutes after a 20 minute drive, and the temps started getting very high while it sat at idle. The main issue that I have is that I do not have much room depth wise for my fan. Approximately how deep are those fans that you purchased? I might be able to squeeze one onto the radiator below my current fan, or else replace my fan with 4 of those, or some similar such thing.

Here is a photo of my setup. Unfortunately, the fan has to be mounted on the rear of the radiator (because the AC condensor and fan are mounted directly in front of the radiator) and wired to "pull" rather than "push" the air across the radiator.

Just curious, but why do you want to use 4 fans? At $65ish each, that'd get quite spendy, and not to mention, take up a lot of space. Why don't you just get a single, bigger fan, that moves more air?

They're 2 3/8" deep, mounted.

McD- That's a bummer that the ties cut through your radiator. Was it new or used? Mine is a new radiator, I will be bummed if this happens :(

that might work out pretty well. i think i may look into using one as a second fan on the radiator, or else replacing my current fan with four of the perma-cool units. roughly how much did they cost, and where did you purchase them?

They're a little pricey at $65 bucks each. I originally ordered two from Summit..they both showed up, but one without the fan blade! So I returned it..waited a month, it was on back order, called Summit several times, waited another month. Well, to make a long story short it never came in so they cancelled my backorder and refunded my $ (never telling me so, I think I just received a postcard). Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend getting it from Summit.

The second one, I bought online directly from Perma-cool, I think. It was about the same price, and showed up with a lot less hassle. I think I had to paint this one to match (I painted one of them black) because although it was the same part number, it was slightly differernt than the other one.

Thanks for the information and the heads-up on ordering them. I've been taking a closer look at my radiator and I'm still not sure if I can come up with anything better than what I currently have, unless I can find a way to move the radiator forward an inch or two. I've decided to try running a jumper to my AC fan (the AC condensor is located in front of the radiator) temporarily so that when the radiator fan is on, the AC fan is on too, even if the AC isn't turned on. If this works to keep it cool at idle, then I will wire in a permanent line to the relay from another thermostat unit.

good idea :) Let me know if it works. Eventually I'd like to get A/C too

The whole setup looks nice, but I'm a bit sour on the thru-the-radiator mounts; mine wore a hole in a tube.
