Gear (Differential) Oil - Wal-Mart brand, 100% Synthetic, 75W-140 900

Dear Fellow Brickboarders,

May this find you well. Is the above-mentioned WAL-MART product safe to use? If not, what specific problems did it cause or make worse?

Thanks very much for your help. I appreciate it.

Yours faithfully,

spook

While I have no experience with said product, I feel that using an off brand oil such as this offers minimal financial benefit. Reason being that your differantial only takes a little over one quart, and you only change it every 30K - 60K miles. Your savings/mile figure would be rediculously low. Not worth the risk, in my humble opinion.

I'll stick with Mobil-1 in my diff.

Just my 2 cents... arguably worth that!

Hello Spook; Check out this thread at bobistheoilguy.com http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=11;t=000317
Looks like this stuff does not meet spec, and the additive pack is very weak.

Maybe a little thick for our application unless you do a lot of towing. I'm it will work just fine. How much does it cost over there?

Don't think it'll cause any harm, though I've bought Mobil 1 from parts stores for around the same or even less.
