my '87 volvo has been having acceleration problems...have changed the AMM, the fuel injectors+rail, fuel pumps and checked all the vacuum lines. There are no error codes being put out. Engine idles fine and sounds great.

The acceleration just plain sucks...i stomp on the acceleratior and car does nothing. Can this be caused by the computer?

Is this a turbo? Check the turbo "ducting" (rubber hoses running to/from the intercooler, and to/from the turbocharger to intake). Also verify that the accordion hose attached to the airbox does not have any tears, etc.

No, not the ECU, 544, 554 rarely fail.

Could be retarded valve or ignition timing.

Make sure your in-tank pump is working, and then check the radio-suppression relay (on the front of the coolant bottle) Sometimes these get crappy and you don't get good injector volts. Oh, and also check the knock sensor. Sometimes they go bad and constantly retard the motor.
