Where in New Jersey is this junkyard?

In Fairfield off of Rt 46. Some 240's/740's, more cars come in every day so I might get lucky. 200

You're in New Jersey? 200

Hi. How do you know he's in New Jersey? You're in New Jersey, too? So am I! I hope he answers -- I could really use a junkyard that has a lot of 240's!

Regards,

Almost all ........ but watch for ET numbers 200

All of the RWD Volvos, at least going back to 122's, I think, will fit, at least regarding the stud pattern.
I also believe (not entirely sure) that the FWD wheels will fit if you use a spacer.

But what you really want to be careful about (among choices of Volvo wheels) is the offset, especially if you're considering the very wide wheels. For example, I have a set of Hydras on one car, which are 16x6.5" and from a 700 or 900 car, as well as Turbo Virgos on another car that are only 15x6". The 6.5" wide wheel is at the limit of clearance (to the rear caliper's "heel"), while the 6" has plenty of space. They should only be 1/4" different, but it's more like 3/4" (maybe 1/2"), because the wider Hydra also sits farther inboard because it has a 5mm difference in wheel offset, 20 vs. 25mm.

Some of the earlier cars, such as 140s and the 164 prior to 1975, had a very large ET number -- that's the offset, not ET's home phone number :-) -- of 40 mm, which can cause problems in a 240 (although they were all such skinny wheels, I don't know why you'd want to use them).

So the thing to check is the ET number stamped on the wheel (e.g., 20, 25, etc.).

Almost all ........ but watch for ET numbers 200 1989

I have a similar question, but regarding Saab wheels. Will older 900 model 15" wheels fit on my 240 wagon? I ask because I was looking for some snow tires at the junk yard today and came across some nice tires with a scandinavian name I can not pronounce, much less remember (not nokias) mounted on some decent steel rims. I believe they were 165 70 15 in size. Just wondering if they might work. I didn't have my brick with me for an overall diameter comparison, but they didn't look like they'd be too large. I also tried the archives here, but didn't find any info. Just wondering...

Gislaved's maybe? Wheels probably wrong, and tire size probably too little, too. 200 1989

Gislaved is another nordic brand, I think. Nokia(n), of course, comes from Finland, whereas I think (not sure) Gislaved might be Swedish.

Anyway, I have no idea as to whether the Saab wheels will fit -- their bolt circle size is a mystery to me, as is whether they are centered solely by their nuts/bolts, or by their center hole, or both (which is critical in Volvos, as I think I recall -- but I will offer that, nevertheless, I doubt they would fit properly solely based on the fact that it's a FWD car. FWD cars usually have an offset that is vastly inappropriate, and my recollection (accurate or not) of Saab wheels' appearance is that the mounting plane is far (far!) outboard of the wheels' center line (although I could be wrong).

I'd worry about that tire size, as well, in case you wanted to "adopt" the tires to other, Volvo wheels. The Volvo needs a load rating of 87 as a minimum, as I recall; a 165/70-15 might not match that. But don't rely on my gut feeling -- go to Tire Rack or some other website and see what load rating a 185/70-14 tire is (your basic Volvo size) and then compare to the load rating of any tire in 165/70-15 (the brand or model of tire doesn't matter).

Best regards,

I have just changed my steel wheels 14'(ET 20mm) with 185/80 tyres for 15' alus from 740 (ET 25) with 195/65 and everythink is all right. So propably all 15' from 700 and 900 with ET 25mm should good.
