B20 vacuum advance. 120-130

Not having found any spark after 2 weeks of trying I finally disconnected the Crane system and put the stock distributor back in (per Haynes) with points, and it fired right up.
I'm thinking I may just stick w/ the points.
Anyway the PO had the little vacuum advance hose inlet blocked off.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of leaving this blocked off? I know it's related to timing advance/retard.
The main thing is that the rebuilt engine keep running smooth. It's running very smooth with the initial start up, but I don't know if leaving the vacuum advance mechanism blocked off will cause problems.
By the way, there does not seem to be anywhere on the combination manifold or in the area of the SU set up to hook up a little hose from the vacuum advance.
