Heater Control Valve compatibility between years and removal of... 200

My Father in law has a 75 245 in his yard that I am hoping to scrap it's heater control valve from as it was a good working piece. But I have 2 questions:

#1 - Will a heater control valve from a 75 work in an 81?

#2 - Tips for removing?
