I am currently trying increasing concentrations of ethanol, diluting the gas in the tank with equal amounts of E85 (a 85 percent ethanol, 15 % gasoline mixture sold here in Sweden at many gas stations). I have now come up to a calculated concentration of about 70% ethanol. The car drives very nicely. Stumbles a bit when starting at 14 C, but immediately after start it runs very well.
At about 50% ethanol the power was slightly less at full throttle, although turbo pressure was slightly higher.
Now, at 70 percent, the turbo pressure goes quite high and the power at full throttle and at 4000 RPM and above is drastically increased (increased cooling effect of ethanol evaporation?). It feels as if when just humming along at constant speed or in moderate acceleration the engine is smoother and more quiet than before.
I expect to have to use Start Spray when coming up to the 85% ethanol if outdoor temp drops much further. We will see, I´ll report again.
Engine is B230 FT, Bosch LH 2.4 with turbo+ (Volvo´s variant of Saab APC, and other similar concepts). Car has 310 000 kms on ODO.
Skoal (Cheers)
