Brakes won't bleed 200

Greetings guys & gals:

I've owned an '89 240 GL for a couple of years that has developed a brake problem that I hope someone can give me some direction on before I end up tearing the entire system up trying to find the problem.

I've just put the front end back together after replacing the struts, power steering rack, tire rod ends, ball joints and some of the bushings. I pulled everything apart to do this, including disconnecting the brake lines, hence the need to bleed the system. I also replaced the rear brake pads, but didn't disconnect the rear brake lines.

The brake pedal had recently become somewhat spongy, so I had already been considering bleeding the system.

My brother helped me bleed the system the old fashioned way rather than using a power or vacuum system. Everything was going well until we got to the passenger rear brake. I opened the bleeder and nothing came out. No fluid at all. We tried several times to no avail. All of the lines look to be properly seated and in good condition. No obvious leaks anywhere. Needless to say the pedal is pure sponge. If pumped, the system will stop the car, albiet not as it should, and the pedal pretty much goes to the floor.

Any ideas?

Thanks much,
Cathca
