New Used AMM now hunting/high idle - repost with new info 200 1993

Hi All,
I replaced a fried AMM (stuck airbox thermostat) with a pick and pull unit of the same p/n and that fixed the original problem of no idle, no power, backfire, etc. Now the idle hunts around on startup between 1000 and 1500 and idles too high in drive. I drove it a few days thinking it might the be ECU "learning" about the new AMM (wise advice from this board) but it actually got worse and started tripped the CE light code for bad TPS - 1-3-3. I ran thru the ODB checks on the TPS and it passed all (3-3-2 for idle and 3-3-3 for WOT in test socket 2 and 3-3-4 in socket 6 for the idle) checks as well as feeler gauge check against the idle stop. Now I am wondering

a.) could a bad TPS pass all the ODB checks?
b.) could this be a "red herring" code triggered by the used AMM not being quite up to snuff?

I've been over vacuum lines, TB, IAC, snorkle leaks, tune-up parts, etc. pretty thoroughly so was leaning towards going and picking out another AMM but wanted to get a sanity check first. Any comments, anybody?
Thanks,
Robb
