'76 245 gearshift knob 200

hi-

my '76 245 has a stick shift gearshift knob that is driving (haha) me nuts because the gearshift cap keeps coming off since it is cracked. i checked my pick-n-pull, but my year is so old that they don't have many more of them, let alone any with a stick shift. can i remove my current gearshift knob and buy a regular aftermarket gearshift knob and screw or somehow mount it onto the rod? i do understand that the overdrive switch would have to be placed somewhere else, but i can deal with that.
