Today Toledo, Ohio has been the exclusive outlet for the Ohio Corn Growers Association Ethynol fuel. We have a station here selling it for $1.83 a gallon. The price is expected hover around the $2 mark which right now is a dollar less than gasoline. E-83 is a blend of 83% corn alcohol with the rest of it a varying blend of gasoline and additives.

Here is my question. Can I run E-83 in my 87 Volvo 240? There is nothing stated in the owners manual. According the the radio report, it is not recomended for most cars unless you have one of the new FFV (flexible fuel vehicles) now being built.
Could this harm my engine if I use it?
Since the 240 was a "World Car" sold in every part of the world, and the grades and makeup of fuel differ from country to country, could this still work? In some South American countries the main fuel is either Diesel or Ethynol.
Is there anything I could add to the fuel to make it safe to use or is this just a ploy to get the public to buy a new FFV. At the current rate, this could cut fuel costs in half. I feel sorry for all of you Californians paying $4 to $5 a gallon. $2.99 a gallon is the current price for gas here right now, so I guess I'm not that desperate for gas yet.
