I am wondering about the rear stabilizer bar bolts. I was installing a set of IPD overload springs and following the haynes manual torque values, I tried to torque the bolts to 66ft/lb. The first bolt took the torque, but the second one broke. After a couple of trips to the hardware store, I found a grede 8.8 M10/1.5 that I was able to tighten to 66ft/lbs without wringing the head off of it. The first issue, the bolt that broke had a flat head and notches on the shoulder like a carraige bolt,it slid into a guide and through the stabilizer bar. The bolt I replaced it with had a hex head and required a second wrench to tighten, as well it doesn't lie flat against the trailing arm like the old one did. More accurately, the head of the new bolt leaves less room in the void between the stabilizer bar and the trailing arm. Is this dangerous? Will it work? I havent driven the car yet, but will be capable in about a day or so and I dont want to put myself in perril.
Secondly, does anyone know the torque value for this bolt? Sometimes haynes is wrong when it comes to the numbers and I am not sure this is right.
Finally, what does this bar do? What would happen if the bolt broke? Where would someone got to find an exact/close to exact replacement for this unuseual bolt(besides Volvo dealer)? Thanks for the info, kenneth
