Adjusting the valves on my B-20

This is way overdue, but I've never done it before. I grasp the general principle, but Haynes is a little cryptic on the subject. Can someone explain to me the procedure as one would to a very small child?

Better to turn the crank by hand or with a remote starter gizmo? Where should the rockers be pointing and where does the feeler gauge go?

Can you tell I was reared by professors?
