I just returned with my '93 945T from the transmission shop. They put in a transmission parts kit, fluid, torque converter and filter for a total of $2058. In 2003 the original transmission started having problems shifting into OD. Lots of diagnosis working with OD solenoids, downshift cable, and OD relay did not solve the problem so in July 2004 I replaced the transmission with a used one from an '89 240 (cost=$400 + $200 installation). Used Volvo transmissions are hard to come by here in southeast Iowa and the only one I was able to find last year did not have a tc with it. That transmission started being slow to engage this summer so I decided to bite the bullet and have the original one repaired. The transmission shop said the torque converter had been very hot and probably ruined the original and the 2nd transmissions. He said the torque converter on my car was a lockup that had only been used in 1993 and this had been confirmed by the converter supplier. I thought lockup tc's were not used on turbos until 94 or 95. The date of manufacture on my car is listed on the door as 9/92. I guess the moral of the story is: Follow spook's advice and get a used transmission with torque converter and check to make sure the fluid is pink.
