I bought a spare B230 and AW70 about a month ago (I was assured it came from a car with only 100,000 kms on it, and was even given the instrument cluster, which indicated that mileage), thinking they may come in handy at some point. I spent quite a few hours disassembling and cleaning the engine. Now I've got the head off and the oil pan off, and I'm trying to assess engine health. First thing I'm checking is connecting rod end play. According to the manual it should only be .001 to .018". However, there seems to be a LOT more play than that (when I turn the crank and have the connecting rod cap facing up - the engine is upside down). I'm measuring between the side of the cap and the crank journal, after having shoved the connecting rod as far as it will go the other way. Am I measuring this wrong? If not, then I've been sold an engine that had a LOT MORE than 100,000 kms on it, based on the gap I'm seeing here. Damn...
