Engine /Engine bay cleaning.... 89 240 wgn 200

Soooo..... I admitedly should have asked this EARLIER.... before I did it ... but the sun was out and the hose was there.

so I got some simplegreen ..some plastic bags (covered Distrubutor, AMM air intake box, batt and coil.

sprayed the simplegreen on the motor and engine bay... let it sit a couple mins and then hosed it off (trying not to nail electrical components..)

removed bags started up car....... at first (to my great horor.... it idled hella bad) then idle returned to normal (idles good now at start and runs good whilst driving..... thank god)

soooo I let it idle in drive for awhile then decided to take it out for a little spin

driving was good...however (oops) I must have got water in my car alarms Batt backup siren... cause as I pulled outta the drive it started going off ... I didn't realize it was my batt backup siren until i noticed the puzzled look of the occupants of a car at the 4way stop by my house...

I quickly pulled over got out and realized my alarm was going off =( luckily I have the valet key for the batt alarm and was able to shut it off... however It is apparently still malfunctioning as attempting to rearm it results in it going off continuously

hopefully it will dry out?? and work again..... or I guess I will have to get it fixed and be more careful in future.

When y'all (if y'all do that is) clean your engine / engine bay how should one do it.. the bad idle (briefly) and fuxoring my batt backup car alarm thing has me somewhat concerned... that apparently my techique is not the "correct" way too go about it????
