Service Engine Light Resetting 900 1992

Hello out there. I looked at the FAQ's and it says to take a small Philips screwdriver and reset the switch. My question is, once the light is out, for example at the next 5,000 mile interval, can I THEN take the small Philips and reset it again, even though the light is not on? As if to recalibrate the light to come on at the 5,000 mile interval I want? Maybe this sounds silly, but I wanted to ask. Thanks. Doug
