I've got a wonderful 1978 244 in Central Illinois, about 90 minutes south of Chicago and 30 minutes north of Champaign, that we no longer need. We brought it out from CA 4 years ago, so it has minimal rust. We're the second owners, and have every single service record back to when the car was first sold.
Here's the proposal: we paid $500+ to have the blower fan fixed a few years back. Still runs great. But the blower fan on our 1984 245 has died. I have the new fan, but haven't wanted to tackle this monster repair. If you have experience fixing the blower fan, and can come to our farm and can fix the 1984 so we can have heat this winter, I will GIVE you the 1978 in exchange. I want to see this thing go to a good Volvo home. I figure if you can fix the blower fan, you're a good Volvo home and can appreciate this special vehicle.
The car has a few mechanical issues, including a sagging driver's seat, a busted fuel gauge sender, broken odometer, and an odd noise from the front left wheel. But I've meticulously maintained the motor/auto trans, done all the maintence on schedule, and the car has minimal rust. Runs very strong. Tires have lots of tread. Until my wife insisted on a minivan, I'd been intending on keeping it for another 10-15 years.
Sound interesting? Drop me an email if you'd like to discuss further.
