Gas tank tension straps 900

Last week I posted a message seeking advice on gas tank tension strap R&R. Figured I'd report on the project for interested Bricksters.

This is a relatively E-Z DIY w/handtools project. After the tension straps are removed (1 bolt front, 1 nut rear for each strap) the fuel tank stays in place resting on its body mounts. You'll need to lower the front body mount an inch or so to free the straps at this end. I used a floor jack and a piece of wood to support the tank at this point.

If your car has seen enough rain/snow for these straps to fail from rust (as mine did), the threads on the rear mount are likely to be in pretty bad shape. A tap & die set comes in handy here.

Couldn't find replacement parts except at dealer - but the price wasn't bad: $15 ea.
