Roaring Accelaration, High idle in Park for 87 740 GLE

Hello:
After starting up my 1987 740 GLE, I’m getting a high (1500 rpm) idle and a roaring noise with acceleration at any speed. The car idles fine driving after warming up (10-15 mins.), and the noise problem subsides somewhat too, but when eventually shifted into Park there’s about a 500 rpm spike upwards.
I recently cleaned the IAC and the throttle body which helped the car idle as well as it does now (before the cleasning the car idled in Park at 2000 and never idled normally during driving).
I've gone through the FAQ and previous posts and it seems that maybe a change of manifold gaskets is in order.

What do you think? I appreciate the help.
