Intermittent IAC?

I've got my 740 idle'n good, but most of the time when I start it and put it into gear it acts like it's going to die then a surge of rmp's helps it to stay running. Right after it does that, I can put it into any gear and the idle seems to stay the same(which it should right?) so is it possible my IAC is just getting itermittent contact and only switches on only to prevent the car from quitting?

Or maybe the TPS is adjusted wrong?
