Taillight compatibility 200 1985

I have a "like new" taillight assembly for my 1983 Volvo 240 DL Sedan. I got rid of the car, and want to give the lights to a friend of mine.

My friend has a "1985" Volvo 240 DL Sedan. I've googled all over the place, and I keep finding that the 1985 model has 6 separate light panels on each taillight, whereas the 1983 has 5.

Are these lights compatible? Can my friend use the 1983 model on his 1985??
