Hello,
I am hopeing for some advice regarding rear bushing replacement. After realizing I would need a press or access to one to press out the bushings in my rear suspention, I have been looking for cheap options. I went to harbor frieght, since they sent me a 20% off coupon and found a A-frame, 6 ton, table top hydraulic shop press for $59. With my coupon, it would cost me $48. This seems like a good deal to me, especially since I can get a rear bushing kit from FCP for $70. So, it all works out, I can replace 8 of the 10 rear bushings for about $125. Anyway, I wanted to know if a 6 ton press will be strong enough to press in/out my rear bushings. I dont know much about hydraulic pressing equipment, so I need some advice.
If I buy this press, can anyone advise my on pressing the bushings in and out? In the Volvo green manuals and the Bentley manual, they show special Volvo drifts being used to press the bushings. Is there something else I can use to put between the ram and the bushing while pressing? Besides the item that goes between the bushing and the ram, is there anything else to it? Do I need something else to put under the suspention component that I am pressing the bushing into/out of? After considering the answers to the previous questions, is there anything else I need to know about the process? Thanks for your time, Kenneth
