I went through the should I sell it or should I fix it decision last month, I came close to buying a 2001 V70 Wagon for what I thought was really fair price, and well the 240 is paid for, so fix it won.
In large part thanks to help from this board'
I did the
PCV and intake manifold overhaul,
New timing belt and Rear Crank seal (done by my Volvo mechanic)
Took the seats down to the frame, and threw the covers in the washer, (and wow, did they come out clean, its a lot easier than you think)
Washed/Scrubbed the carpets with DuPont spray cleaner
Center Arm Rest from Ebay ( I should have bought 10 years ago)
New Dash, Side Pocket, Center Console covers from IPD
New Heater pads, one set OEM, one set generic from IPD
Little things like replacing interior lighting ( gear shifter, seat belts, rear vanity),
scrubed the interior
Paid my 14 year old to wax/buff the finish.
An "S" Sverige (Sweden) international car code sticker just because it looks like it should be there
With just the above it's like driving a new car
IPD Sway Bars are on ORDER!
All of the above is about $1500, The car was running reasonably well before all this, and a lot of what I did was cosmetic, and really didnt HAVE to be done, (I was happy adding a quart of oil every 3 months from the crank leak), but it is a heck of lot more fun driving a clean well running 244.
thanks for all your help on recent posts!
btw, by coincidence, the thermostat failed last week on the way home from work. I called my wife, gave her a list of tools to bring, and she ran to the NAPA store, met me in a parking lot, in about an hour I was back on the road. I dont think I could have done that with the 2001 V70.
