oil cap 444-544 1965

I have a 65 544 and my oil cap is in the center of the valve cover as opposed to the front near the fan. It also has no tube, or a hole for a tube coming out of the cap. My question is this: Is this original for my car?
I am wondering because I have been experiencing a fair amount of oil leakage where the cap screws on to the valve cover.
