240 abrubtly dies, no restart 200 1990

replaced kickdown cable on son's 240 sedan. what a difference car shifts and performs like new. decide to drive it to work as longer term test, drive perhaps 2 miles and check engine light comes on and car dies simultaneously. will not start, all my work seems intact, any ideas?
