Coil-external resistor?? No start? Help! 200 1986

'88 245 wouldn't start. Thought it was lack of spark. Got a new coil, said needs an external resistor, thought 240's must have it. Still no start. Switched coil, dist. cap, and wires with my '86 244. All should be compatible. Now the '86 will not turn over at all!!!! Switched back to original coil. Cleaned connections on coil. Clean connections at battery. Light, radio, wipers work. Is this connected? Help! I don't know if I should just have it towed, Mon morning!
