should i try to R & R my catalytic converter myself? 94 940 900

I have a crack in the neck at the front of my catalytic converter. My mechanic has quoted me $265 for the job, parts and labor, but has not specified what brand of catalytic converter.
my questions:
1. Is this a hard job to do? I never do my own work and have not lift or jackstands but it doesn't look like it would be that hard.
2. The rest of the exhaust is pretty new.
3. Prices for catalytic converters vary widely from about $85 for a catco brand up to around $150. Given that the original cat has lasted 11 years, and that I plan on keeping the car forever, what kind of catalytic converter should I plan on getting? Who makes the one for volvo?
4. Any advice on this project would be much appreciated.

Ok, now I'll go do a search on the faq's!

Markus
