Sigh. Sorry about the blank message...
I'm slowly working through my various bits and pieces of old volvo I've
collected over the years, hoping to get my 73 running in some state so I
can at least drive it. It has been sitting idle for years and years and
has been taken apart to a small degree. It has lots of miles but almost
no rust and the body is nearly perfect, and it is yellow!
I have 2 D-Jet fuel pumps. I rigged together an injector to the high
pressure side and a bottle of denatured alcohol on the inlet side, with
the injector sitting in a cup. I then attached a battery charger to the
fuel pump's electrical leads. I was pretty surprised that one of them
ran at 6v.
With a 1.2v battery, I was able to make the injector fire reliably.
On of my fuel pumps didn't run at all and when I took it apart the insides
are full of rust. The other pump, the one that worked, leaked badly out
of the area around where the wires feed into pump.
Are they both junk? Bimmerparts.com has them for $310, which is a
hefty chunck of change. The one that leaks, does it just need new o-rings?
I'm planning on running denatured alcohol through a set of 4 injectors to
test them -- is that the wrong stuff? Is there anything better?
Thanks,
chris
