I decided to change the dreaded 4 vacuum actuators (also called "bellows" or "servos") on my 1991 940SE since one of them was leaking.
Scott at FCPGroton promptly overnighted them to me, but to my surprise part #9463041 (2 pcs) was different from the unit I had installed from the factory:
THE VACUUM CONNECTION WAS ROTATED 90° CCW !!! And of course the hoses will not reach it because instead of pointing towards the top where the hoses comes from, it was pointing towards the floor.
So I called Scott and I sent them back. Then I went at the local Volvo dealer in Fort Lauderdale FL, and the next day I got the SAME SURPRISE !!! And the new units came directly from the Volvo North America dist. center.
Now, according to logic, but also to a picture I have on an UK edition of the service manual, the units they sent me are for the RIGHT HAND drive version, where the air distribution box it's the mirrored version of the left hand drive.
MY QUESTION IS:
How a lot of those units ended up in North America? And is there anybody in the country that has the right ones?
A copy of this letter has been forwarded to Volvo, I'll post here the answer if any.
