Bought the Chilton manual Volvo Coupes/sedans/wagons 1990-98. I drive a 1990 740 turbo intercooler wagon. The manual doesn't have a picture of my engine (which is transverse). In addition, the manual says to reset the service reminder light on my model, I'd have to reach behind the dash somehow but that other models had a rubber gromlet with a reset buttom underneath. Of course, my car has the rubber gromlet with the reset button and of course it doesn't reset the service reminder light which stays on for the obligatory 2 minuntes after starting. Some other puzzling differences. The oil dipstick doesn't have any markings on it, just a 'braided' area. When I checked out the Chilton 1980-88 book, it had a picture of my dipstick but still no picture of the engine. Also, after doing an oil change, it appears that 3qts of oil resulted in overfill thought the manual says 4qts capacity. And after draining the oil I just put in, the dipstick indicates I've still got plenty?? Wrong capacity listed? This car originiated in CA. And there is some minor damage to the hood which could only have been caused by an bolt extending from the engine capartment though I see no evidence of this aside from the raised bump on the hood. Do you think maybe this car had serious work and a complete different engine with different orientation was put in. Again, the engine is transverse like the disel 240 wagons. Haynes doesn't sell a manual for this year Volvo. Anyone got a similiar engine? It's a 4cyl 2.3L b230ft? Any suggestions for getting a good repair manual? I really couldn't decipher the numerous publications from the volvo website and @ 30 bucks a pop I really need to know which manuals I should really be buying. I'm a difyer who can handle spark plugs, alternators, belts and hoses, starters and radiators. Thoughts... Thanxs in advance!
