replacing tie tods. Need help 900

Im in the middle of replacing both tie rods but im stuck. Im trying to undo the tie rod from the rack end but I can't get a grip on it. The piece is complete round with not notches cut out for a spanner or anything to grip. I tried vice grips but its no use since the surface is so greasy. The replacement tie rods I bought from FCP have 4 very nice notches cut out for a spanner to grip. This is the replace ment tie rod. These notches are missing on the factory tie rod.
