Alternator repair quest 91 940 GLE 900 1991

symptoms: car dies after running 5 min sounds real rich lights dim down to nothing.

voltage reg was replaced 2 months ago.

Need your collective skills to diagnos and hopefully solve this problem. How to test brushes and diodes etc..
