Tranny fluid 200

How exactly do you guys check your tranny fluid? I usually check mine after driving it for 1/2 hour. The problem is I can't seem to get an accurate reading when checking the dipstick (with or without the car running) The dipstick always pulls out smeared with fluid . I usually pull the stick a couple of times and wipe.....................any answers would be great.
