the other day i get a call that my brother is stranded somewhere down the road in his handed down '84 245. he says that he downshifted and it banged and then wouldnt do anything. so i get there with the trailer and try to see if i can figure it out. the engine ran fine but the clutch was realllly easy to push down and nothing happened when i tried to put it in gear. i got underneath and the cable was still attached and pulling the arm as it should soo the only thing i can think of is that when he downshifted it grabbed too hard and yanked the center right out of the clutch disk.. is this possible? this car is the same one with the possessed brake lights and everything else including rust in about every possible place. i got started and 2 bolts holding the center shaft bearing have ripped their threading through the floor too. i'm about over it and dont really want to waste time doing a clutch job. does this sound feasable? and if it is what i think, then would that mess up the pressure plate too? i'd rather just replace the disk and wait for the car to rust to pieces before doing the plate and bearings too. anyone in indiana with a reaaaal cheap 240 beater they'd like to get rid of? suggestions?
