I am 90% of the way done on this job. All that remains is the passenger side impeller and pluggin up the hole on that side.
1. Take the seats out - it is so easy, gives tons of access and gives you an opportunity to clean out under the seat & lube the tracks.
2. You have to have a Dremel. I used a mini saw blade to cut out the plastic and a drill bit for the venturi.
3. You will need an 18" #4 phillips head screwdriver.
4. If you want to be sure the job will get done at once - order the L and R impellers. Its probably an extra $30 but you won't get stalled like I did.
5. I was not able to cut perfect circles out of the plastic housing. In fact I hacked it up pretty good, trying to avoid wiring harnesses. Instead of trying to reuse the plastic I cut out, I cut 7' x 7" steel plates out of home heating duct tin - sealed it with windshield butyl and put a screw at all four corners. It also makes for easy access if you need to get back in there.
6. I also used a little butyl to hold the speed nuts on the back side of the motor mount itself. They will pop off an you will be upset.
7. I ended up lengthening the + power lead and routing it alonf the rh side of console. I lost the original lead and it was going to be a pain to fish it through the mess that is the console wiring/vac lines. All it took was two butt connectors and a 6" length of 14g wire.
My motor was badly worn, the main shaft was cutting into the casing - way beyond the boundry of the bushing. The increase in air flow was amazing. I have no regrets about doing this method and avoiding taking the whole car apart.
