Plugging your 240 into power outlet? 200 1989

I've never seen this before and don't know what it is:

I did an engine swap on my '89 240 and the old engine had a chord which plugs into the engine block below the exhause manifold. The other end of this chord plugs into a grounded power outlet (like the end of the power chord). The replacement engine didn't have this and I have no idea what this is for, any ideas? I've never seen a car where you "plug in" a power chord for a gas engine.
