Check Engine Indicator ON 700

Brickboarder;

90 740 B230FT, 170kMiles. The CE Indicator has come ON. This is not associated with any particular problem symptoms that I have noticed …starting, idling, power, mileage all seem normal and unchanged. The Lambda sensor is original, so it is probably due for replacement, and I plan to do that anyway…. I’d be real happy if someone were to post something like: “The O2 sensor at that mileage is very likely to be the cause of the CE Indicator”…. obviously though, it’s best to see what the indicator points to.

In looking around the Brickboard site, I found the instructions for making and using up the fault code indicator LED, which I plan to follow…is there any other advice, or experience someone can add to this? If I missed other info already out there, thanks for pointing to links.

Other useful advice would be appreciated…particularly, how to reset the CE indicator after repairs have been completed.

Finally, a hypothetical question: Why couldn’t the CE Indicator actually BE the fault code light? (…or, would that be giving the driver too much information?…and what’s wrong with that!)

Cheers
