Intermitent brake failure light 200 1987

While I'm waiting for an alternator for my 90 240 I'm driving my 87 240 around.Yesterday and today for no apparent reason my break failure light went on and stayed on. When I turn the car off and restart all is fine.Then maybe,its hit or miss,it will relight. What gives?A short,too much rain? Where should I look first? All caliper and brake pads have been serviced. TIA
