No fuel pump sound when key turned on 900 1993

My '93 945t used to make a sound when I turned on the key. I assumed the sound was the fuel pump runnng for a second or two. Today I noticed that the car cranked a little longer than normal before starting, and that it wasn't making the fuel pump sound when the key was turned on. Once started, it runs fine. Was it the main pump I was hearing? What would cause of it not running now? Thanks for the help.
