temp gauge 900 1996

my temp gauge falls way below the half way mark on steady long trips and as sone as i stop the car and let it idle for about 5 min it comes back up to the halfway mark again. does it have anything to do with the tempature outside being about 50 deegres? do i have anything to worry about that the car is running below the normal temp? thanks keith
