kyb strut inserts 1989 760 gle estate 700

Just bought some kyb struts for my 760 gle.Ive fitted one but their is quite a bit of difference between the original ones and the new kyb units (kyb no 665055)the original units labelled volvo 1329648-8.
The kyb units piston rod is noticably thinner, and the the threads for the top nut are different.
After fitting the new struts,the strut tops in the engine bay are more compressed,the nut fastens everything in place.
To me they seem not to be the correct units,although they are according to the kyb website.
As anyone on the board had experience of fitting these strut inserts to a 760 gle 89 estate?
