Setting A Vintage Volvo AM/FM Radio...How??? 444-544

I received a nice vintage Volvo AM/FM radio in the mail today. I had purchased it with the thought of installing it in the dash to look good and act as a decoy for my big, expensive stereo system, which will be mounted out of sight.

While the radio front doesn't say either 'Bendix' or 'Volvo,' it's the typical Volvo radio that has the small center section that has the dial and pushbuttons...considerably smaller than an American radio of the same vintage. It (would) fit the original cutout in my dash perfectly (if some previous owner hadn't taken a hammer and chisel to the dash to install a different spindle-type radio!)

Anyway, I'm certain it's the right radio, and since I was bolting it into the dash anyway, I went ahead and hooked up some temporary leads to power and the speakers to see if it actually worked. The guy I bought it from had never tried it out, having used it as a decoy, much the same as I intend to do.

Needless to say, it works perfectly, and has a fairly nice sound.

Here's where I run out of knowledge: On an American radio of this type, you simply pull out the pushbuttons to set your stations. This radio doesn't seem to do that. I put considerable finger pressure on the buttons, but none of them will pull out, yet they all press in and cause the dial to jump to someone else's presets!

There are three small slots in the dial faceplate, just above the buttons. The center slot has a lever to select AM or FM. I don't know what the remaining slots on either side of that one do; I suspect they are used somehow to set the buttons.

Anyone have an answer for me?

Thanks!
