New clutch, no adjustment? 700 1987

Also posted this one at turbobricks, and got some interesting responses, so I thought I'd wander by this way and see what you folks think...

I recently replaced my clutch and a number of related components. Over the past two years, the old one wore down a good deal and for almost a year, was lacking a good chunk of the contact surface. anyway, that's irrelevant as I had this clutch replaced over the summer (August), but not before I had a clutch cable failure in June (Note the delay. Lack of funds and availability of a secondary car kept it offline for a while). Now, the old clutch had looked as if it was far out of adjustment based on the old cable, as well as the replacement cable, which was an OEM replacement (the previous was, apparently Scantech. ugh) which had no visible adjustment left. I had suspected this to be caused by the clutch itself being worn out, and so when I got my car back from the shop with the new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing, I was shocked to see the same *miniscule* quantity of adjustment left on the clutch cable. At this moment, I've got very little slack left, with enough adjustment left to last me until late december if I avoid the cross bronx expressway on one of my trips home ;)

Given that these parts were all replaced, what the hell could possibly be contributing to my problem? It was suggested that the release arm/fork may be bent or improperly seated, but I am unable to check as I lack the facilities to drop my tranny, and I doubt my apartment complex would appreciate me doing it ;) The pressure plate was also suggested, but that requires the same disassembly to check. On top of this, I've had recurring issues with the synchros in third and first in my particular transmission and was considering replacing it at some point with a lower mileage junkyard model (likely a same year 240 M46 adapted to fit my 740 due to the drastically lower cost). It's quite likely that whatever ails me would be solved by this, but before doing so, I'd rather try to go the cheap and simple route by having the clutch last as long as humanly possible.

As usual...thoughts, suggestions, flames? :D
