I'm about to button up a '93 240 after an oil pump delivery tube seal R&R. Whenever I dropped the oil pan, I saw that the gasket had been dressed with some type of light gray caulking, but only on the pan side. I'd say it was sorta like RTV, but not as tough and it peeled off the oil pan flange with just my fingernail scratching it, so I doubt if it is a silicone sealant. I have no way of knowing if this was applied at the factory and the Bentley doesn't call out anything to be used. Does anyone know what is the recommened gasket dressing for this application? I sure as hell don't want any reason to pull the pan again.
Thanks, one and all.
