Hello,
I am about to change my front pads. I have read both Bentley and Haynes, and whatever came up doing a search in the Board's archive.
Questions :
1) lubing the caliper's piston
I read the following here
"When I replace pads, I work the pistons in and out and clean/lube the area to ensure free piston movement. With this bit of attention, calipers should last longer even if the piston dust boots are bad."
http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=916434
How do you lube the piston ? What should I use to lube them ?
2) is there any reason to remove the two bolts holding the caliper ? I believe I saw that as one way in the FAQ here on the board. any easier to remove old pads and insert new ones that way ?
3) brake cleaner
should I spray all over calipers, rotors, etc. to clean off all dust before starting ?
Any other tips to make my first brake change easier ? I have just replaced a wheel stud, and noticed that my front pads need replacement (no grooves left, and must under 2mm).
Thanks.
