I'll have to get pictures up of the right-rear Girling brake caliper I just took off my '69 144s project.
Never saw anything like this:
The pads are bent into semi-circles!
The rubber boots are melted.
the friction mAterial has dissapeared.
The pad backing plates are fused solid to the caliper pistons!
And the clipers are DRY....
Finally, No fluid passes out of the now open brake line on that side. Not even with 30 psi from a pressure bleeding kit.
Ok, it was driven that way for about 16 miles.....
I'm wonderding what may have caused the crushing of the pads?
My guess is the hydraulic force just kept staying "ON" withough releasing with lifting off the brake pedal. Just compredded more, and more, and more....
One direction.
So, that means a flex hose probably deteriorated and acted at a one-way check valve allowing fluid flow "ON", but not release.
The heat build-up while driving probably melted the flex hose completely shut now, thus prohibiting any flow of fluid you'd expect inn a fluid flushing or bleeding procedure.
Sound about right?
Since there is a hard line at the caliper, I'll be looking into the pair of flex hoses above the rear axle.
Could there be any other explanations?
