Hi all-
I'm using my '83 240 to commute 106 miles one way to work now. I need it to be reliable. The other day it started "bucking". It seems to have an intermittent delay of fuel to the engine. I took it to my Volvo mechanic a couple days ago and he did a few things to try and take care of the problem. They changed my distributor cap because oil was being forced into it. Regapped my plugs and cleaned them. Blew out some built up carbon in a hose and plastic housing. Seemed to do the trick until I drove to work the next morning. I fill up my gas tank at the same place on the way home every time I work. Both times the bucking started at the same place on the freeway. I think it corresponds with the level of fuel in the tank. The fuel was at about 3/4 full when the bucking started each time. In order to test my theory of it being related to the fuel level I purchased gas about 15 miles before I got to the point in the road that I had problems before. Today I did not have any bucking problems because the fuel tank was above 3/4 for the entire trip. My mechanic mentioned something about the pre-pump. I haven't looked into anything regarding the fuel pump or pre-pump yet. If anyone has any advice for me regarding this issue I would greatly appreciate it. About one year ago I replaced my wiring harness and it has run perfectly since then so I know it is not related to the old harness.
