940 Ballance shaft belt 900

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be ok to run my '91 940 GLE without the ballance shaft belt. I have been told that other 940's do not have ballance shaft belts and that the only difference in my engine is the head(I have the 16 valve DOHC B234F), and so it should be fine without it......BUT, I have also been told that removing the ballance belt would cause the car to "shake to pieces". I would greatly appreciate anyones knowledge,
