83/242 AMM problems 200 1983

I've got a 242 with the white cap dist.The engine is surging there is no vacumn leaks.I tryed to adjust the AMM but this unit won't adjust at all.The car will have a slight skip at around town speed.The O2 is switching as it should.The car has a new dist cap and roter button.The AMM ends in 002 and the ICU is a 295.Is it possible to switch the AMM with a 007 with out doing any damage to the rest of the ECU works,Will it work is the Questions I have a good many 007 and none of the 002.
